The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society / Napa Valley Marathon

Posted on Dec 17th, 2007 by Toni : Dream Painter Toni

I have signed up to run the Napa Valley Marathon on March 2, 2008.  Think I'm crazy? :)  Maybe.  You may or may not know, I used to be a very inactive person.  This will actually be my second marathon; the first was the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco last October 21st.  The first time I did it was just to prove to myself that I can, and I finished!!!  It was the greatest feeling of accomplishment, crossing the 26.2 mile mark... so I decided to train for another one!

This time, I decided to join The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program.  TNT is dedicated to curing blood-related cancer like Lymphoma, Hodgkin's Disease and Myeloma; and improving the lives of patients and their families. In exchange for fundraising, TNT will help me train for the race and will provide me coaching and medical guidance, something I did not have when I was training on my own for my first marathon.

My goals are two-fold: one, to cross the finish line on March 2nd; and two, to raise $2,500 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by February 15, 2008 (which coincidentally is my birthday!!!). I'm hoping you will be able to help me with both of these goals. Your encouragement and support will help me get up during the cold early mornings to train with fellow TNTers; and your financial support will help those afflicted with blood- related cancers cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!  My particular honoree is Kelly Harris who I've come to admire, not only is she going through chemotherapy but is training and running with us as well.  Her courage and discipline is what I hope to take with me when I run in Napa Valley.  I am also running in honor of my Aunt Genie and Grandma Conching, two wonderful, strong women in my family who passed away from cancer.

Finally, if you know someone who has been afflicted with a blood-related cancer or any type of cancer, I would love to run in their honor as well. Please let me know their name(s) and I will be sure to wear a bracelet for them on race day.

I will keep you guys updated on how I am doing with my training and with my fundraising.  You may also visit my fundraising website: http://www.active.com/donate/tntsvmb/tonilambio to make your donations.

Thank you very much for your support!!!!
